Ex-Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes that MS Dhoni might continue to play the T20 World Cup if Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks him to.
Former India skipper MS Dhoni bid farewell to international cricket with an emotional video on Instagram on Assumption.
He will undoubtedly leave an enormous hole within the senior national team, especially when it involves the ICC events. However, as performer Pakistan speed merchant, Shoaib Akhtar, there’s still a method that could see Dhoni play the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Akhtar has been an active cricketing guru on social media platforms. He regularly keeps sharing his opinion on the raging matters of the sport through his YouTube channel.
After hearing Dhoni’s decision to call time on his career, Akhtar opined that Dhoni still could continue playing the shortest format for India.
“I think he could have played T20 cricket, he could have gone on to play the T20 World Cup . and the way India supports its stars, the way they love them and recognizes them, they would have played him in T20s. But it was his personal choice,” he said while chatting with a YouTube channel ‘BolWasim’.
Dhoni remains the only captain to possess won all three ICC trophies – T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy – a feat that will be incredibly difficult to achieve.
The Rawalpindi Express highlighted such feats as he said: “But again he has won everything, an individual from Ranchi has rocked the entire of India, what else do you need. At the end of the day, the planet should remember you. And a nation like India, they will never let you get forgotten”.
One request that probably ever Dhoni fan has from the cricketing system is to conduct a farewell game for the 39-year-old so that they can say goodbye to him in a proper manner. Akhtar too echoed these sentiments as he opined: “India will be geared up to give him a farewell game, trust me.
If he doesn’t want it, it’s a different thing, but India will be ready. the whole stadium will be booked for him to play a couple of T20 matches and then go after that”.
Many suggest that Dhoni was looking to play the 2020 T20 World Cup but seeing the COVID-19 pandemic force the postponement of the tournament, he decided not to hang around for another year and made the big decision public.
Akhtar, however feels Dhoni could still play next year’s T20 World Cup if the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks him to.
You never know. The Prime Minister may call him and request him to play the T20 World Cup. that is also possible.
Imran Khan was asked by General Zia-ul-Haq not to leave cricket after 1987, and he played. You cannot say no to the Prime Minister, he signed off saying. it will be the best ever.
