Liverpool won the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul, Turkey by beating Chelsea at penalty shoot-out 5-4 winning. The match entered into extra time which ended 2-2 draw for a penalty shoot-out.

Adrian the 32-year-old Spaniard goalkeeper who left West Ham on a free transfer to join Liverpool last week has replaced Alisson Becker due to injury save Tammy Abraham’s penalty to give Liverpool their first winning of the season at Istanbul.

Chelsea had earlier taken a deserved lead through Olivier Giroud’s smart finish (36) but the half-time introduction of Roberto Firmino swung the balance, and within 90 seconds he had set-up Sadio Mane to level (47) While the rest of normal time could not produce another goal, Liverpool went ahead five minutes into extra time as a Mane rocket beat Kepa Arrizabalaga, but a soft penalty given when Adrian brushed Abraham inside the box allowed Jorginho to level from the spot (101).

Adrian “Welcome to Liverpool!” he told BT Sport of his whirlwind start. “It was a crazy week but with [my teammates] it’s so easy playing at the back.

“I’m really happy for the team to get the trophy. I’m really happy to play for Liverpool and really happy for the fans because they enjoyed tonight. It was a long game but at the end it was a great finish for us.”

Penalties Result:

Firmino scored (1-0), Jorginho scored (1-1), Fabinho scored (2-1), Barkley scored (2-2), Origi scored (3-2), Mount scored (3-3), Alexander-Arnold scored (4-3), Emerson (4-4), Salah (5-4), Abraham saved (5-4)

Both teams will be coming back to Premier League action this weekend, with Liverpool away to Southampton on weekend and Chelsea hosting Leicester on Sunday.
