Respected Army chief, Major Gen. ola Ishola-Williams [rtd] has represented the struggle by a section of Northern leaders to keep the nation’s presidency beyond 2023 as an unbridled display of greed, warning that tries to contest the country’s number one power seat with the South may threaten its unity. He spoke more on this and alternative national problems during this interview.
Many Nigerians are condemning the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC over its conduct of the recent elections in Kogi, and Bayelsa states, what’s your own candid assessment of the electoral body’s performance throughout the polls?
INEC unsuccessful Nigerians. INEC is very tousled. however, this could not come back as a surprise to Nigerians. this INEC beneath the leadership of the professor. Mahmoud Yakubu has not been inspiring in the slightest degree. there’s nothing independent about this current INEC. I have been saying it, and that I still need to repeat it here that this present INEC will never conduct credible elections in Nigeria. Not only that, but it can’t also cope with the rigors of organizing successful, and credible elections, and therefore the scenario is even getting worse beneath the leadership of professor. Yakubu.
We need to take forceful action so as to confirm that elections in Nigeria become more credible otherwise we’ll become a laughing stock before the international community. International observers represented even the recent elections in Kogi, and Bayelsa state as not being free, and fair, that the exercise was a sham. For international observers to mention this, it is an enormous embarrassment for the state. INEC has become an enormous embarrassment to Nigeria.
